Tips | Internet Job Search
Here are some tips for your internet job search.
> Use ASCII file format
> Remember that tabs and spaces are the only formatting in ASCII
> Use keywords heavily in the introduction of the resume, not at the end
> If you are emailing your resume, besides ASCII format resume, attach the regular version too (in .doc or .pdf format)
> Focus on accomplishments using your relevant keywords to describe them
> Have a pro help you with web design of your online resume. Bad and outdated design will make you look unprofessional. But flashy web design will make you look too eager and tacky. Try to find a balance.
> Look up the Web site of the company you are targeting to get yourself fixed with fresh informations
> Use a font size between 10 and 14 point
> Make sure your lines do not exceed 65 characters limit
> Do not use fancy fonts - stick to the standards
> Include your email address on your resume and cover letter
> Don’t email job applications from your current employer’s network
> Don’t use your work email for job search
> Make sure your resume is scannable (it has a simple font, no borders, no creative lining, no bold face, no underlining, no italics). The practice of scanning is overestimated, but it should still be a consideration.
> Always back up
> Check your email every day. When using the Internet, people expect a prompt reaction
> Don’t send multiple emails to ensure that one gets through
