Tips | Job Interview continues
Let us continue with Job Interview fine tuning. I hope you enjoy my posts, I really try too hard for this hot weather. I must notice that there are no comments so far. All the shy people read me. Ahh… back to work:
> Your handshake should be firm, but try not to break their bones. Sometimes we, the ordinary people, can get too enthusiastic. (actually, I have never heard about this happening - the bone breaking - but maybe I am not that well informed after all)
> Eye contact, but not too much of it. You don’t want them to see you as a freak.
> Smile, but not too much. Find the balance, that is the key.
> Take notes during the interview. You may want to refer to them later in the interview. Also, the note taking is very flattering to your interviewer.
> Be prepared for all questions, especially uncomfortable ones and practice answering them.
> Communicate your skills, qualifications, and credentials to the hiring manager. Describe your market value and the benefits you offer. Demonstrate how you will contribute to the bottom line. (show how you can: improve sales, reduce costs, improve productivity, or solve organizational problems)
> Don’t be shy: stress your accomplishments, explain using PAR method (Problem - Action - Results).
> Listen well, find hidden meanings, and answer questions in a brief but effective manner.
> Let the interviewer bring up the salary. The purpose of a job interview is to determine whether there is a match. Salary is negotiated in step two.
> Ask for what you want. Ask directly, “Is there anything that would prevent you from offering me this position now?” or “Do you have any reservations or concerns?” This will give you the opportunity to turn potential objections into your best friends.
> Send a Thank-You note within 24 hours of every employment meeting.
