Are you working the graveyard shift?

Find out why it is called the graveyard shift. Unfortunately, this is not a joke.

Do you work at night? Did you know that bright night can hurt your health? I am not talking about a starlit night, but the one with electric lighting and you with a bad case of coffee breath. Do you still sleep at night or you think it is only part of a baby regimen?

This article (about health effects of night shifts) just put my whole lifestyle in question. I do work at night. Not in shifts, but certainly at night when my baby is sleeping. I understand this is not the official theory, but it definitely makes sense and I believe it. I will go to (almost) any length to preserve my health. Anyhow, if scientists find the best source of antioxidants in some kind of cockroach I will say no and never look back.

“… If the shift work theory proves correct, millions of people worldwide could be affected. Experts estimate that nearly 20 percent of the working population in developed countries work night shifts.

It is a surprising twist for an idea that scientists first described as “wacky,” said Richard Stevens, a cancer epidemiologist and professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In 1987, Stevens published a paper suggesting a link between light at night and breast cancer…”

I didn’t know this about breast cancer. I was living in the dark, but it was not the right shade of dark.
